Social Networking

Technology has evolved tremendously over the past years. Social networks are a perfect example of these technologies that have arisen and have transformed our businesses and social lives. Some of the benefits of social networking are advertising, communication, and collaboration. A perfect example is Facebook and Instagram, these platforms have allowed businesses to advertise and reach more people than they could ever do before. Companies use Instagram to sell products and give a more visual representation of their products. It makes it easier for users to shop and buy. This function has helped small merchandise businesses like Dave Klonke (Business: Right Hook Branded Merchandise), he takes pictures of most of the projects his company puts together and posts them on Instagram. He then links the pictures from Instagram on his website. Dave says that he "mainly focuses on Instagram because of the visual nature of promo products. Having a social networking profile allows for more chances of exposure and opportunities for marketing your work and yourself. Social networks are also beneficial when organizing events and groups.  Communities and people are able to inform each other of upcoming events such as fundraisers.

Unfortunately, as many benefits as social networking may have, it also comes with a dark side. One of the biggest concerns is the loss of privacy and information theft. According to the article "Leaving 'Friendprints': How Online Social Networks are Redefining Privacy and Personal Security", people are revealing more information than they are aware of. By giving up your information such as names, dates of birth, and a list of friends, it may have consequences such as identity theft. Third parties can take this information and combine it with other data to steal a person's identity.

In the future, I believe social networks will evolve tremendously and take over advertising completely. Also, AI will probably be integrated into social platforms to facilitate on-line services.
